Quilt Week begins today, how are you going to celebrate?
Porter’s is going to celebrate ‘Quilt Week’ by giving you some quick-tips and quilting ideas so that you can get started on, or re-start, your quilting projects.
- Use Test Blocks
Before committing to your quilting patter, if you are not sure you like the combination of colors or patterns, start out by piecing only four blocks together. After piecing the four blocks together you can see how the fabrics work together, if you like the color combinations, if you like the style and make any changes you want for the next set of test blocks.
- Fun Fabrics
Show off your personality by choosing your favorite patterns or colors for your quilt. Or, if you are making a gift for someone else, you can use his or her favorite colors.Here is an example of some very expressive and fun fabric:
- Chain Piecing
Chain piecing is when you sew the blocks of a quilt in a sort of assembly-line fashion. You align the right sides together and sew. This makes it easier because then you have paired units that you can grab and sew in fewer steps.
- New Fabrics
Minkee is a newer and very popular fabric to use because it is so soft and cuddly.
